• The first two weeks of the adoption is classed as a cooling off period, if within the first two weeks you return the dog to Woodhaven Boarding Kennels and Cattery the full adoption fee will be refunded unless in circumstances indicated below.

• Any injury or illness caused due to negligence  on the adopters part due to putting the dog in danger, not taking precautions, being reckless in the dogs care, not following the terms and conditions of this contract etc. is solely payable by the adopter, if during the cooling off period and the dog is returned to Woodhaven in the case the treatment has not been paid for, the adoption fee may be withheld by Woodhaven from the adopter to cover in full or part the cost of the treatment required.

• The first two weeks the dog must be kept securely on a lead at all times apart from the garden that has been approved by a home checker, the dog must not be let loose in any other garden or area within that time it is recommended that the first time letting the dog loose should be in a secure purpose built dog enclosure, the leaflets in your pack will provide information of such an establishment.

• The dog must legally wear an identification tag at all times whilst out of the home, one can be provided by Woodhaven at a cost of £5, (this will be refunded to you once the tag is returned) until you acquire a suitable tag, it must legally include your surname (not your dogs name), address and telephone number.

• It is also a legal requirement to ensure your dogs microchip details are kept up to date, please make your microchip company and Woodhaven aware of any changes to your contact details or address.

• During the two week cooling off period we are within our rights to collect the dog and take back into Woodhaven’s care if we feel you are unsuitable for any reason to keep the dog long term.

• Woodhaven may, if felt the dog is being mistreated, abused, neglected or unsuitably cared for, take the dog back into their care at any time during the adoption.

• The dog is under no circumstances to be rehomed, sold, gifted, exchanged, surrendered or any way given away. If you are no longer in a position to keep the dog it must be returned to Woodhaven where a suitable home will be found, in the case a family member or friend would like to adopt the dog, providing they are a suitable candidate there may be the option for them to adopt the dog without it having to be returned to kennels.

• The dog may go for a general health check and appointments arranged by Woodhaven Boarding Kennels only, during the Two week cooling off period, any other treatment must be given after the cooling off period unless it emergency treatment, this must be discussed with Woodhaven before a treatment plan is made. Euthanasia is not permitted during the cooling off period and must be discussed with Woodhaven at any time during the following life time adoption unless the dog has an incurable illness / injury or symptoms of old age.

• The dog has been assessed in a kennel environment, any known past history is also taken into account in finding the right home for the dog, that being said we do not know how the dog will react in situations outside of the kennels and extreme caution must be taken when introducing to new people, animals and environments, Children are to be taught how to meet the dog correctly to avoid accidents. Any relevant past will have been made aware to you. It is your responsibility to be cautious during new introductions. Children should never be left unattended with any dog, no matter how well you know it.

• The above named animal is at all times, during the adoption, the legal property of Woodhaven Boarding Kennels, Woodhaven boarding kennels and/or their representatives are within their legal rights to take the animal back into their care if any concerns arise.

• Discussed guidelines must be followed to ensure yours, the dogs, other animals and members of the general publics safety. Dogs who are not suitable to live with children must not come into direct contact with children, dogs not good with cats or small furries must be on a lead and kept under complete control if contact is inevitable, as in during a walk etc. Dogs not good with other dogs should never be let off the lead around other dogs, in extreme dog reactivity cases it may be necessary to muzzle your dog.

• The dog must at no time be put in any type of mental or physical distress, the dog must not be caged for unfair amounts of times, if leaving the dog all day adequate food and water must be provided and toilets intervals must be arranged, either with yourself, friend or family or a dog walker. The dog must be provided with adequate exercise for its needs and enrichment in the form of toys and mental stimulation.(We understand and accept veterinary or health related treatment may unfortunately cause a certain amount of necessary distress)

• Flea and worm treatment and vaccinations will be up to date at the time of adoption, unless in certain circumstances where a veterinary appointment is pending, which will have been paid for by Woodhaven, it is your responsibility to keep these up to date after adoption. You will be provided with the dates these are due.

• Veterinary treatment should be readily available for your dog and should never be withheld.

• Refunds will not be given after the initial two weeks cooling off period.

• The dog is believed to be in normal health on leaving the animal Woodhaven except where specific conditions have been made known to the Adopter on the Animal Adoption Form and the responsibility for and cost of any future veterinary or other treatment shall be borne solely by the Adopter.

• You will be provided with 5 weeks free insurance with Agria at the time of adoption, it is strongly advised insurance is carried forward as large unexpected vets bills can be financially crippling. Third party insurance is also a great benefit.

• If court or relevant authority finds any part of this Agreement to be unenforceable, the rest of the Agreement shall continue in force as each of these terms operates separately

• The Adopter agrees to comply with all relevant regulations, legislation and laws concerning the welfare, control, responsible ownership and protection of animals including without limitation the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and Codes of Practice issued in England and Wales under the 2006 Act and to ensure that anyone with the temporary care of the Animal also complies.

• Woodhaven may from time to time make contact to make sure the adoption is running smoothly, Woodhaven reserve the right to visit the home if concerns arise over the dog.

• If you are adopting a sighthound from Woodhaven please be aware that sighthounds are known for potentially having an extremely high prey drive so owners must ensure their garden is clear of cats or small furries when letting their dog into the garden. We would also recommend using a muzzle on walks if there is a high population of cats in your area.
